College Democrats Elections

For President: Micah Joselow
Hey Dems! Our names are Chloe Bordewich and Micah Joselow and we're both sophomores in Rocky. Over the course of the last year we served on the executive board as the Campaign Coordinator (Chloe) and Events Chair (Micah). Having worked together on both the events and campaign sides of the organization, we feel that we would make a terrific team as the 2010 Co-Presidents of Princeton College Dems.
We're running together for Co-Presidents not only because of our experience, but also because of our vision for the organization. While we're now unfortunately living in Chris Christie's New Jersey (despite our best efforts), we're coming up on one of the most important election cycles in recent memory. We need as many Democrats as possible in our organization to campaign for the numerous important races in the area, including Members of Congress across New Jersey, Senate seats in both Pennsylvania and New York, the New York Gubernatorial race, Princeton Alum Terri Sewell's bid for Congress in Alabama, and many more. Given the numerous races we have the opportunity to be involved with next fall, we feel that a strong campaign strategy is essential. We will coordinate more effectively with P-Votes & NJPIRG to make sure that we don’t expend all our manpower on voter registration when they are doing the same thing. This will allow us to focus our efforts on getting out our own Democratic voters. At the beginning of each semester we will lay out a timetable for campaign-related activities, allowing our devoted membership to plan far ahead for involvement.
But the campaign side of College Dems is only one component of the organization. Thus, we feel that over the course of the next year, it is essential for the organization to become much more than just a strong campaign force. Our events ideas include a large gala next Fall to celebrate with the Princeton Community Democratic Organization and other major guests to get the campus community of liberals more connected, training on how to lobby followed by lobbying trips to Trenton and DC for progressive causes, political comedy nights, and debates and mixers with College Republicans and other political organizations. We also plan to focus on bringing in numerous exciting speakers from Congressman Holt, to Mayor Cory Booker, to Senator Lautenberg and many, many more. Weekly general membership meetings will become a key part of the organization, as College Dems will become more of a social group over the course of the next year. Not only will weekly meetings and exciting events create a more unified organization, but also strengthen our campaign efforts. Through making College Dems a more pleasant social environment and promoting more camaraderie amongst members, there will be a very positive impact on campaign enthusiasm and turnout.
No matter what a liberal student's interest, be it campaigning, social events, or anything in between, we firmly believe that there should be a place for them in College Dems. As Co-Presidents of College Dems next year, we will make sure that this is the case. Given our experience and vision for the organization, we feel that we would make a perfect team to lead College Dems into the future.

For Treasurer: Scott Falin
My name is Scott Falin and I am running to be re-elected as your treasurer.
It was an honor to serve on the Executive Board of the College Dems for the past year as we worked to advance progressive issues here on campus and campaigned for Democratic candidates throughout the state and country.
As treasurer last year, I acquired valuable experience in managing the College Dems budget and working with the Dean of Undergraduate Students to obtain funding for our events and speakers. We also pulled off a very successful fundraiser selling our Michelle Obama t-shirts.
After serving last year, I firmly believe that I have the experience, knowledge, and commitment necessary to continue to be a successful treasurer. I will remain a responsible overseer of the organization’s finances and will continue to work with the administration to ensure funding for all of our events and speakers in the coming year.
Furthermore, I am very excited about our tentative plans to add the appointed position of Fundraising Chair to the board. I look forward to working with whoever fills this position to boost our fundraising efforts and expand the College Dems budget. Additionally, we hope to achieve a long-standing goal of the College Dems and host a political fundraiser here, possibly in conjunction with the Princeton Community Democratic Organization.
It has been an honor serving College Dems for the past year and I know that 2010 will be even more thrilling and eventful. This is an exciting time to be a Democrat as we enter the second year of the Obama administration and with midterm elections just around the corner. Thus, in this important year, I promise—if I am fortunate enough to earn your vote as treasurer—to devote all my efforts to ensure that College Dems have the finances and resources necessary to achieve our goals. Thank you very much.

For Events Chair: Ben Krueger
Hi everybody! My name is Ben Krueger and I am running for Events Chair of College Democrats. I have had a lot of fun working with the organization ever since the presidential election last year and being an officer has only heightened my enthusiasm. I greatly look forward to working with whoever seeks an officer position for the coming term. I will continue to help in any way I can with the organization. Vote for me!

For Campaign Coordinator: Jarrah O'Neill
When I was 13 I decided that Dennis Kucinich, that obscure man from Cleveland with a wave of black hair falling in his face, was my favorite candidate to oppose President Bush’s re-election. I joined Ithacans for Kucinich, my local campaign group, and began working. I stood in the cold for hours to get him on the ballot in New York State (yes, Kucinich’s campaign relied on tweens to put him on the ballot). I besieged New Hampshire voters with handwritten letters about Kucinich’s plans but it was in vain—he lost. But then I worked for Kerry’s campaign, and after that a local race, and I realized that campaigning is something I really enjoy.
I would love to be able to do this work in a formal position at Princeton. There are myriad political groups on campus but often their effects are diluted because of the huge number of organizations. The Princeton College Democrats is in a unique position to make political activism on campus more cohesive, and if elected I would work to do just that. This year, there are many crucial political debates that Princeton can and should be involved in. As Campaigns Chair, I hope to promote, encourage and facilitate this political activism. Banding together as Princeton Democrats, we have the power to affect change.
