Who Are We?

College Democrats works to elect Democratic political candidates, push for progressive legislation and encourage progressive activism at Princeton. We are the largest student organization at Princeton with over 1300 students on our mailing list. Liberals, centrists and even some moderate conservatives all count themselves as members of our organization.

Why Join?

College Democrats is the only progressive student organization that directly seeks to affect the political process at the federal, state and local levels. To fight for issues like health care, marriage equality and environmental sustainability, we work to elect Democrats to office and lobby those Democrats to make good on their candidate platforms while in office. No other campus group will provide you with this type of opportunity to learn about politics and have an impact on public policy. You don’t need to wait until after college to effect the political process. You can do it now. College Democrats will be as big or as little of a time commitment as you want it to be, so definitely get involved!

What’s Coming Up?

This fall, re-electing Democratic NJ Governor Jon Corzine will be our top priority. He is currently trailing the Republican nominee, Chris Christie, by about 10 percentage points. The Republican Governors Association is pouring millions into the race to defeat Corzine. To ensure that NJ continues to take action on climate change, enact marriage equality legislation, improve public schools and protect the most vulnerable in society, we cannot allow a conservative Bush appointee like Chris Christie to run the state.

How To Help?

There are myriad ways to get involved with the Corzine re-election effort and College Democrats in general. These include registering to vote in New Jersey, encouraging freshman friends and dorm neighbors to vote, canvassing locally and making phone calls to likely voters. This election will be close, possibly as close as the Minnesota Senate race and the NY 20th Congressional election decided by a few hundred votes. We need all the help we can get to send a Democrat back to Trenton.
