USG Voting

USG Voting has opened today, and the Princeton College Democrats offer the following recommendations and endorsements. For further explanation, please see the latest blog posting.

When you vote today on the USG ballot, you will have the chance to vote on two (2) referenda. The first one, which has two parts, was created as a response to the passage of Prop 8 in California (a ballot initiative against gay marriage). The referendum you will vote on encourages the trustees of the University to take a progressive stance on this crucial national issue, supporting the equal rights of gays and lesbians everywhere. Please vote yes on BOTH PARTS of Question 1.

The second initiative was created by a group of campus conservatives in response to the first. This vaguely worded initiative seeks to impose limits on the University’s ability to be a force for progressive change on what it calls “controversial” matters. We cannot afford for this innocuously-worded amendment to pass; with Barack Obama’s election, it is time for all sectors of society, including academia, to shake off the fear of change and start moving our country forward. Please vote no on Question 2.

Finally, please remember the board has endorsed Nick DiBerardino for USG VP, Arthur Levy for ULC Chair, and Helen Chen for Class of 2011 Senator. Please VOTE HERE: http://webscript.princeton.edu/~usg/elections/
